We set up Muddy Boots Real Foods Ltd in December 2008 and we’re absolutely loving it!
We grew up just 20 minutes away but we didn’t meet until university. We’ve been a couple ever since and we lived in London after university. We worked in film and television until December 2008, which we loved but we really wanted to have a go at running our own company and taking on the challenge together. We got married in January 2010.
Ro’s father, John, has farmed at Church Farm for 40 years. He has an incredible herd of award-winning pedigree Aberdeen Angus Beef. The quality of this beef is unforgettable and the 21-day maturing (on the bone) makes it incredibly tender.
We took this resource and our passion for bringing top quality beef to products that too often don’t get the good stuff and developed the Muddy Boots promise:
We promise that all the beef in our burgers is grass-finished, naturally-reared Aberdeen Angus Beef. Naturally-reared means the calves single-suckle their mothers for the first seven months, until it would be time for their mum to kick them out anyway. It is a slow farming method but does make for better beef and happier cattle, which is how we like it at Church Farm. All the beef is from Roland’s father’s farm but when demand increases we will source from other local Aberdeen Angus herds and will never let our promise to you be compromised.
We’ve developed faster than we could have imagined, thanks to the incredibly kind support and advice of people who know a lot more about this industry than we do and to the feedback from the friends we have made at the Farmers’ Markets. We still rely on feedback from as many people as we can so if you have any experience of our website or products that you’d like to share with us, we’d love to hear from you.
Have a muddy good day!
Roland and Miranda
